Welcome to Down with Learning! I’m Lauren
Downs, a wife, and teacher living in Southwest Ohio. I graduated from Miami University in 2009
with my Bachelors in middle childhood education.
In 2012, I completed my Masters of Education
from Indiana Wesleyan. Most recently, I acquired my
Computer Technology Endorsement from
Bowling Green
State, just
in time for
all this distance, virtual, remote, digital (and
any other interchangeable term we can think of) learning that 2020 has brought
us! Currently, I’m about to start
my 12th
year of teaching, all of which have been in middle school grades 5 through
7. I’ve taught language arts the past 11
years as well as social studies and math.
I spent one year in 7th grade, 7 years in 5th grade, and the past 3 years in 6th grade. Before Coronavirus, I was slated to teach 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. However, I am a Type 1 Diabetic and that puts
me in the high-risk category for the virus.
Therefore, my year has now shifted to a virtual adventure! I’ll keep you
posted on how that goes! |
When I’m not planning lessons or spending way too much money on Amazon buying things no one ever needs, I’m at home with my husband and our furry friend, Penny. We just celebrated 7 years of marriage but have been together for 17. High school sweethearts, we first laid eyes on each other freshman year when we were Spanish partners. Ole! He failed that class. I like to think it was because he was so enamored by me! But I digress. For now, it’s just him, me, and sweet Penny. Penny is our 5-year old mini golden doodle, and she’s wonderful!
I hope you find this blog full of helpful tips, creative ideas, and a delightful glimpse into my little corner of the world.
